Triple Blessing Project

The project began on the initiative of The New West Christian Reform Church of Burnaby and Westminster Bible Chapel was invited to be a partner in the project. The purpose is to recognize the tremendous work being carried out by the caregivers in the various care homes in and around our neighbourhood. It was christened Triple Blessing Project, and rightly so! It blesses three sets of people who are involved with the project:

The Maker

We try and identify newer eateries who are struggling to survive during this pandemic, but who also maintain the safety standards required of such establishments.

The Giver

People who contribute to make this project possible. People of the congregations of our two churches who feel that recognition of these frontline workers who put their lives in danger sometimes to keep our lives safe. All contributions are welcome and could be made by cheque to New Westminster Christian Reform Church, designated for the Triple Blessing Project, or by PayPal. Cheques can be sent to the church office of either church.

The Receiver

The caregivers at Care Centres that we identify every week. We take turns to be responsible for the arrangements every week. We identify a centre and a source of supply for the food. We talk to the care centre to inform them of our program and of having chosen them for the meal. We find out the number of caregivers they have on staff and their preference for the kind of food and the numbers of vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals they require. Once we have the information the arrangements are made with the eatery of choice. Each meal has a card of blessing from our churches attached to it.

Because of the safety and sanitary concerns we normally deliver it to a central location in the home, where some of the caregivers assemble to meet with us and receive the boxed lunch or dinner. At that time a prayer for their safety and a blessing for the food is done by a representative of our churches.

For the deliveries made by WBC, Pastor Brian, Elders Gert, Larry and Randall and myself have been present. To be involved with this project has been a fulfilling experience.

We began our association with our first delivery to the Kiwanis Care Home in New Westminster. It was for 40 dinners on May 21 at 4.00 pm. Gert blessed the food and prayed for the care givers. The food was supplied by Fusion Wok of New Westminster.

Our next visit was to the George Derby Centre in Burnaby. This is a large facility and food was given to 90 caregivers. They wished to have a lunch meal, which was supplied by Sushi Q Tea Café in New Westminster on June 4 at 11.30. Pastor Brian blessed the food and prayed for the safety of the workers.

On June 18 at 11.00 we were at Buchanan Lodge in New Westminster to deliver 50 lunches to the caregivers there. The meal was supplied by Spring Garden Seafood Restaurant, New Westminster. Pastor Brian gave thanks for the food and prayed for the caregivers.

On July 2 we attended to the Queen’s Park Care Centre and gave lunchboxes to 80 workers at the Long Term Care Units. The meal was made and supplied by Shiok Singapore Cuisine of Kingsway, Vancouver. Pastor Brian blessed the food and prayed for the Centre and its workers and residents.
