Mid December 2020 Pastor Andrew of the New West Christian Reform Church sent out a message about offering a lunch/dinner meal to the caregivers of the Care Homes in the New West/ Burnaby area as a Christmas gift and encouragement to these hardworking frontline workers.

As WBC had partnered with NWCRC very successfully for a similar program in June, they asked if we would partner with them again. Pastor Brian and the Elders at WBC thought it would be encouragement and a blessing during Christmas, when these caregivers would be giving up their time with their families to care for those needing their help.

In all 8 locations were selected. WBC were responsible for four:
St.Michaels Care Centre
Kiwanis Care Centre
Buchanan Care Centre
George Derby Care Home

All four, when contacted, were very happy to have been recognized, and grateful for the offer. We normally accompanied the meal boxes and Pastor Brian or one of the Elders offered words of encouragement and a prayer for the food and for the safety of the caregivers and their wards.

Kiwanis were the first to be given their lunchboxes on December 22nd, followed by George Derby, and Buchanan on the 23rd. Unfortunately, much to their disappointment and ours, St. Michaels, scheduled for thé 24th, had an outbreak of COVID and had been advised by their specialist not to receive anything or to expose anyone in or to the facility.

This was indeed a Christmas Blessing for all of us involved. People came together to help, contributed to the finances and went away with more than we gave! Special thanks to Pastor Andrew of NWCRC, who spearheaded the project, Pastor Brian, who is always available for advice and guidance, Elder Gert from WBC, Joyce Lee and Jenny Eastwood  from NWCRC. For me personally, the takeaway is, besides the three blessings, the fourth of working together with other Christ-centred churches.
